Happy 9/11
9 years ago today. Lest we forget.

Over the past 9 years, I'd say around 100 people have enjoyed 9/11 with us. We've seen a rotating door of staff and inconsistencies with the stero system, but always good food and almost always good service. At 19:30 this evening, around 10 of us (three new to 9/11) will pay out respects before entering Omrith (now adjacent to kebab shop 'Ash' for the traditional memorial meal. For those of you who shall not make it, have a delightful 9/11. Thaaaaankyou!

I will be back in a year with all the Ground Zero photos I have.

A reservation...
Hello Omrith, I hope you are all well; my regards to Mr. Mustafa.

I have tried to make an online booking for a group, but unfortunately your web page does not work (it complains the calendar is in the wrong format).

I will telephone at the beginning of next week to re-confirm this, but this is not a joke message (you will know who we are by the end of the message if you don't already).

It is time for us to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the closure of 'Maranatha' (and therefore the opening of our favourite Bangladeshi restaurant with a name that means "Nectar"). Five is very important number to us, and we have come for a meal at Omrith on September 11th every year that you have been open.

Therefore, we would like to reserve a table on September 11th, 2010. We expect a large turnout this time, at least 10 people, but possibly even 12 or 13. As is customary, we will bring a music CD as a gift.

We usually come by 7.30pm, and this time is no different, so we should come by 7.28pm precisely.

We were impressed by your 5 course meal last time (though in our opinion it should be called the "Special Discount Price" meal or "1980's Price"), and so we would like to suggest you add the following meals, which would be of interest to us if you do (as in it is very likely that we would order them):

1) The "'Timble of Rice' meal" (as previously suggested on feedback form from 2nd May 2010): 7 course: Starter, main course, rice, naan, side dish, 1 FREE cobra beer (from the fridge), dessert AND coffee. VERY IMPORTANT.

2a) The "Omrith Royale, served on a plate" meal: 9 course: samosa, tikka, 1 large cobra beer (comes with starters), main course, rice, naan bread, onion bhajee, sag aloo OR bombay aloo, 1 large cobra beer (comes with mains) dessert, coffee.

2b) The "'Sir, I think perhaps you have ordered too much food!' meal": 11 courses: 1 samosa, 1 x tikka, 1 x other starter, main course, rice, naan bread, chappati, 2 x side dishes, dessert, coffee. 1 x indigestion tablet (Tums or Rennie).

3) A meal deal for a young person (but not child) called the "Junior Special" meal: 1 x rice and small curry (making sure the rice is fresh), with a free can of non-alcoholic drink from the fridge.

4) The "Summoning of THA" naan deal: 1 x pain naan, 1 x peshawari naan, 1 x keema naan. Thaaaaaaaaaaaank you.

5) The "Yoga fire challenge": 1 x rice, 1 x phall, 1 x vindaloo, as much tap water as you can drink. Please note: this dish may contain chillies.

Also, the frozen dark chocolate ice cream dessert should be called "Tina Turner" in honour of the great pop singer.

We look forward to seeing you on September 11th, 2010 at 7.28pm precisely!

Dressed Smart Like a Lamb Bhuna
Thomas H. Arthur just commented on my Omrith Kanye meme thing on Facebook.

Maranatha means "Come Lord Jesus". That is why this name was great is great and will be great for ever and ever. Amen

Lol. I like how he doesn't think our obsession with his ex-restaurant is strange at all, and relates everything to religion XD

Day 147: 9/11

Tonight ten of us will be visiting Ground Zero (now better known as Omrith), the former site of Maranatha.
This'll be the first year that Thomas H. Arthur is aware of our 9/11 visit.
Curry and Cobra will be had.

One plain naan, one keema naan, one peshwari naah, thaaaaaaankyou.

Easy Way To Heaven

Wasn't Thomas H. Arthur turning up with amnesia as a Born Again Christian one of our conspiracy theories (or something close, anyway)?
Anyway, at least we know we can find him now (though I'm kinda' worried and scared he's going to try to get us to join a cult now D:).

At least we've got a new avatar set from it all :pCollapse )

What a great memory. Really this world is very small.
How are you all? We are fine. I sold the restaurant on 2005.
Hope we will have good chat in near future.
Thanks again.

The Search For Tom...
A short recap for those that are for some reason following this small, obscure, and dated group, but not me.
Cut for shock!Collapse )

There is so much to ask when we do finally make contact (first being "Wanna come to Omrith on 9/11?"), but as of yet he hasn't accepted my friend request.

Facebook informed me that he was new to the site, so maybe he doesn't use it much or whatever. I'll leave it a few days then message him.
If that doesn't work, I'll add all 4 of his current friends and question them.
We WILL find Tom!

Curry for Mental Health

Tucking into an Indian takeaway once or twice a week may help stave off Alzheimer's disease, it has been claimed.
An ingredient in the curry spice turmeric is believed to prevent changes in the brain that are linked to the disease.

A clinical trial is now under way in California to test the effects of the agent, curcumin, on a group of Alzheimer's patients.

Laboratory and animal studies have already produced strong evidence that curry combats dementia, members of the Royal College of Psychiatrists were told at their annual meeting in Liverpool.

Indian-born American expert Professor Murali Doraiswamy said curcumin appeared to block the spread of amyloid plaques. These are deposits of toxic protein in the brain that are thought to play a key role in Alzheimer's.

"You can modify a mouse so that at about 12 months its brain is riddled with plaques," said Prof Doraiswamy. "If you feed it a curcumin-rich diet it dissolves these plaques. The same diet prevented younger mice from forming new plaques.

"The next step is to test curcumin on human amyloid plaque formation using newer brain scans and there are plans for that."

Rates of Alzheimer's are known to be low in Asian communities with turmeric-rich diets, said the professor.

"Studies looking at populations show that people who eat a curry meal two or three times a week seem to have a lower risk for dementia," said Prof Doraiswamy. "Those studies seem to show that you need only consume what is part of the normal diet - but the research studies are testing higher doses to see if they can maximise the effect. It would be equivalent of going on a curry spree for a week."

Scientists at the University of Southampton are currently investigating the effect of curcumin on genetically engineered fruit flies with Alzheimer's-like traits.

Favourite Food: Phaal
Yesterday I started Mother 3.
At the start of the game you need to get to name a few people (and things... and a doggie).
I named the mother Ingrid and the father Thomas H.
When I got in control of Thomas H., the first person that joined him was a guy called Thomas XD

Made me laugh anyway, but a bit too obscure to put on my main LJ, so here it is :p

Had any good curries lately?

Nothing too interesting, really.

I've also been reading reviews of Omrith, which is bad as I'm now incredibly hungry and wanting a fucking curry :{

Flaming Hot Dies
Remember Flaming Hot?
Well it's an Indian Restaurant that oepned in Westferry in November / December.
It was rather cheap, made pretty nice food, sometimes randomly gave us free drinks, and once invited us to free food at their opening bash.

Well the last time we went was New Years Day.
We went back yesterday to find it once again under new management @_@
It's called something silly like Entice now.
New menu (wtf is a Chicken 65?), new staff, Cobra now on tap... but a few things still displaying the Flaming Hot name and logo.

Overall though, once the food eventually arrived it was nice.
The dishes all included a portion of pilau rice (which went some way to justifying the bumped-up price).
Not sure if I'd go again, but it was good food nonetheless.
Shame about Flaming Hot still :{

Zomg! 0000 Price
Today I went to Flaming Hot in Westferry with Emily.
The meal was very nice and the waiting times and service were great.
Emily then got talking to the staff when she asked where the dance floor that the takeaway flyer advertised is.
They actually do have a seperate dance room :o
They then asked for our address as they want to make a "members list".
They want to build up customers and are going to have a party on the 15th, which we're invited to bring anybody to :o
They said all the food will be free, and a glass of champagne too (which Emily stupidly requested to be downsized to fake champers >:| ).
They also said that if we ever want to hire the place out for a party, they'll do us an offer like £7 a head or something @_@
Fucking great!
This must be the work of Tom :O

Pink Indian!
My housemate Emily just got back from Clapham Tandoori and showed me the bag they gave her her takeout leftovers in.

It's a pretty pink underwear shop-like paper bag with string :o

Just as impressive was the fact that that SEALED the leftovers in plastic trays with film lids for the microwave, just like you'd buy curries in the supermarlket :o
Apparently it wasn't too expensive.

Think I may get's sometime :D
